Our rare honeys from Madagascar

Madagascar with its thousands of varieties of endemic plants will never cease to amaze. Through the fields of wild flowers or in the tropical forests, one will find without a doubt a wonder of nature. From this land spoiled by Mother Nature comes rare honeys that cannot be found elsewhere. Some honeys are said to be "rare". This is particularly the case of six varieties that come from the Mokarana, Mangroves, Jujube, Pink Berries, Eucalyptus and Cactus. But what makes them so rare? The answer is rather simple: the endemic plants foraged by the bees in these lost corners of the Red Island. Added to this is the progressive disappearance of bees in parallel with climate change. Here are some rare honeys that are the pride of Malagasy beekeepers and that ensure them an honorable work all year long.

Mokarana honey, a rare honey with unique and fresh flavors

Mokarana Honey, a rare honey with unique and fresh flavorsMadagascar has been chosen by Mother Nature to bear unique tree species in the world. This is the case of the "Mokarana" trees, from their 6 meters height, behind their large leaves where bees frolic. The inhabitants have always known the value of this melliferous tree, where bees like to gather flowers. The result is a rare and smooth honey with a tangy citrus taste. Its relaxing properties invite you to relax. It is best enjoyed at breakfast with a fresh bun, or in the evening with tea before going to bed. Rich in natural vitamin complexes, the Mokarana honey also contains fatty acids. It is a natural ally against many diseases. It also contributes to the slowing down of cellular aging. By consuming this honey regularly, we ensure to participate actively in the hydration of the skin. Finally, we should not forget to underline that honeys are natural antibiotics, to be consumed without moderation.

Mangrove honey, a rare honey with an extremely sweet flavor

Mangroves arouse the curiosity of many. These plants literally grow in a permanent humidity, in water or Mangroves as it is called in the Menabe. Moreover, to obtain it, the beekeepers have to navigate on their boat. The latter like to describe the qualities of the honey that they harvest from these funny trees. It is a nice alternative to do without sugar while finding the sweetness of a hot drink in the morning or evening. But unlike other honeys from Madagascar, Mangrove Honey crystallizes very quickly. A rare honey to discover quickly to surprise the taste buds.

Jujube honey, a tasty honey rich in virtues

If there is a rare honey, it is the one that is harvested from the jujube trees. The resulting honey has a taste so special that it is difficult to find the right words. This is probably why it is classified among the rare honeys of Madagascar. However, the Honey of Jujubier has virtues which are clean to him. We speak to this effect of its healing and anti-ulcer property. This is why this rare honey is recommended in case of indigestion or intestinal disorders. Externally, the virtues of Jujube Honey are excellent against wounds and injuries in everyday life. This unique honey is used and abused to treat respiratory infections such as angina and sinusitis. With an extraordinary wealth of B vitamins, this honey is also one of the few to be highly recommended for taking care of the vision. Finally, it seems that Jujube Honey is also a good aphrodisiac in addition to being natural. Indeed, each of our honeys come from a culture without pesticides and organic honey trees.

Pink Berry Honey, one of the rarest honeys in the world

The pink berry from Madagascar has inherited a nickname that has nothing to do with the quality and texture of its honey. Referred to as "pink pepper", the pink berry has no connection with the pepper plant (Piper nigrum). Native to South America, pink berries are now cultivated off the Indian Ocean, and consequently on the east coast of Madagascar. Bees make  Pink Berry Honey using only the pollen from the tree's flowers. This is the reason why the scent of these red fruits is found in the nectar of the bees. In recent years, drought and climate change have almost caused the planting of pink berries. This phenomenon has led to a rarefaction of the Pink Berry Honey. The melliferous trees having difficulty to grow and to bloom in due time.

Eucalyptus honey, a delicious way to feel good

Recognizable by its color ranging from pale yellow to dark brown, a touch iridescent, Eucalyptus Honey is an exceptional honey. Its woody, almost mentholated scent is revealed by its creamy texture, with a sweet, yet acidic attack in the mouth. The essence of the eucalyptus tree has always been used for its purifying and antiviral qualities. Of course, the tree exists in many countries. But the quantity of trees is not enough to extract honey. In Madagascar, one can admire forests of eucalyptus as far as the eye can see. The honey that is harvested is called "monofloral". This specificity makes it one of the rare honeys of Madagascar, ideal for treating lung and respiratory infections as the cold season approaches.

Cactus honey, a rare dessert honey

Qualified as prophetic honey, the Cactus Honey is worth its weight in gold for the rarity of the flowering of succulent plants. This exceptional honey draws as many qualifiers by the very aspect of the flowers that the bees gather to make the honey. Indeed, succulents do not have the same rhythm of blooming as the other plants. Better still, these plants are real warriors that manage to survive in hostile and arid environments. Succulent plant honey is therefore so rare that the opportunity is too good not to take advantage of it when the opportunity arises. Madagascar is home to many regions where rainfall is not always mild. However, the bees manage to produce ambrosia from these few rare flowers.
