Applesauce in gastronomy

We tend to think of cinnamon applesauce as a purely sweet recipe. Which is true, we agree. However, it is not only used as a snack for the little ones or as a dessert. It can be used to accompany meat dishes. Generally, we present a dish of chicken or blood sausage with fruit compote. As a dessert, it is used to spread pancakes. As a side dish, it will gladly marry potato cakes, to give a sweet touch to a savory dish. For vegans, it can replace eggs in the preparation of cakes.

Ingredients for a successful compote

Making cinnamon applesauce is relatively simple. With the right ingredients, it is impossible to fail the recipe. To do this, you will need:

    • 4 apples
    • 150 grams of butter
    • 3 bowls of water
    • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
    • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar or honey

It is generally recommended to replace sugar with honey. Indeed, honey is sweet while being naturally low in sucrose. The taste will be more or less the same, with a hint of fragrant flavor thanks to the honey. In this regard, there is a long list of varieties to choose from: niaouli, eucalyptus, litchi, etc.

Cinnamon applesauce recipe

First, the apples are cut into small pieces, once they have been peeled. Then, in a saucepan, melt the butter and add the sugar, cinnamon, two bowls of water and the apples. Make sure to stir often, then let it simmer for half an hour. Then pour in the last bowl of water and let it cook for another 30 minutes. When the cooking is finished, let the compote cool to room temperature. As soon as it is cold, it can be moved to individual jars and placed in the fridge.

Healthy tips for your applesauce

You don't have to use sugar to sweeten the apples. You can substitute it with honey. This is especially recommended because of the nature of sugar. You should know that sugar crystals contain 100% carbohydrates. In other words, 100 grams of sugar are equivalent to 100 grams of carbohydrates. Honey, on the other hand, is low in sugar. For every 100 grams of honey, we will absorb 1.5 grams of carbohydrates. The rest is glucose and fructose. If you are on a diet, you can enjoy applesauce by judiciously replacing sugar with honey. This is the advantage of honey, which does not waste a moment to delight all palates.
