Salt has nothing left to prove on the plate. It has its place in most kitchens. But its use is not limited to the kitchen. In the garden as well as in the dressing room, in the home as well as in the toiletry bag, this condiment offers a variety of other functions that we don't think about. Here are some uses for salt that you may not have known about.

Salt to preserve food

The process of salting or curing has always been a widely used technique to keep certain foods from spoiling. The amount of salt used will be about 15% of the total weight of the food that you want to keep in good condition. It is enough to apply the salt on the product by dry salting. Coarse salt or flake salt you can use whatever you have at home. It should be noted that coarse salt takes longer to melt. This method partially dehydrates the food. It prevents bacterial proliferation. So, if you can't keep the food fresh, you can simplify your life with the salting technique !

Salt to maintain furniture

One of the uses of salt that we don't think of is for the maintenance of objects that we care about, such as furniture. Do you have a valuable piece of furniture that you want to keep in good condition? Use salt! Salt is more economical than chemical cleaners. It is a natural cleaner. It can be used to clean all kinds of surfaces. First of all, wickerwork: to keep its shine longer, you can clean it with warm salt water. If you notice black or rusty stains on brass knick-knacks, dip them in salt water with white vinegar to remedy them. Then wipe with a cloth soaked in the same water.

Salt to scare away the greedy ones in the garden

Slugs, snails, ants and other small undesirables. Instead of abusing them with pesticides and polluting the soil at the same time, natural repellents are preferred. The most appropriate is of course salt. Less expensive than any other product in the same category, salt will almost never be in short supply at home. It can also be used as a natural weed killer. To do this, simply place a handful of coarse salt on the weeds. Leave it on for 2 to 3 days and these unwanted plants will gradually perish. Another alternative is to pour 2 liters of boiling salted water with 500 g of coarse salt on the invasive plants.

Salt for hygiene and cleanliness

The uses of salt can also extend to hygiene. We have always known that salt can be used as a homemade scrub. But what we don't know is that it can also replace toothpaste. By mixing salt and lemon, you'll be back to sparkling white after a few weeks. With fine grain salt or coarse salt, the result will be almost the same. In addition, it can be used as a mouthwash against mouth ulcers. Long live salt !

Uses of salt in the closet

If there is one place where moisture easily takes hold, it is in the dressing room. Textiles quickly develop stains, the cause of which is unknown. One morning, you discover that small insects have nibbled at your sweaters. They are attracted by the humidity and warmth of the closet. To remedy this, simply pour salt into a handkerchief and close it with a rubber band. Place the handkerchief somewhere in the closet, such as near the shoes. Ideally, you place the handkerchief at the bottom of the dressing room where ventilation is poor. The odors will fade gradually, but effectively.
