Honey : the natural sugar

The sweetness of honey makes it an excellent partner at tea time. Substituting honey for sugar goes back a long way. Man has been consuming it since... prehistoric times. Since then, this natural sugar has become a heritage. Better than sugar, it brings only interesting nutrients for the health since the mists of time. 

Honey, a natural sugar as old as the world

The consumption of honey dates back to the 10th century, when man probably discovered its sweetness in the mouth. Appearing on Earth some 80 million years ago, bees were already very active in pollination. This has undoubtedly given this natural sugar so many different flavors and aromas. In Madagascar, where honey is known to be one of the best in the world, you will discover  cactus honey, jujube tree honey, pure pink berry honey and many others. This magical country where 94% of the 320 species of flowering plants are endemic. As man began to learn how to fashion his hunting tools, he also discovered the existence of bee nectar. He had to climb tree trunks, lift stones or inspect in small pits to collect the honey. These methods were detrimental to the bee colonies, knowing that they had to be hunted first before their honey could be collected.

Man and honey, a beautiful love story

Aware of the damage that was being done to bees, Man eventually found a way to avoid dislodging bees to collect their honey. Towards the end of the 18th century, beehives appeared. Religious people were the first to use hives with removable skylights. Little by little, beekeeping gained ground. The method became known and appreciated in France and throughout Europe. Aristocrats were among those who loved honey. Prized for its unique taste and typical aroma, honey made every sip of tea much more tasty. Today, honey is the only thing that people swear by, beyond the "teatime".

Honey to sweeten your herbal teas

It is customary to present the teapot with a saucer filled with sugar cubes. But since the beginning of time, this natural sugar has been appreciated to make hot drinks more delicious. Nowadays, we have the chance to find a great variety of honeys, selected according to the date of flowering of the plants to extract diversified perfumes. As such, we could list several dozen different flavors.

Honey, an internationally recognized sugar

And that's an understatement! Honey is a food that all civilizations have mentioned in their annals. For each of them, honey symbolized a certain grandeur. In the city of Babylon, honey was strongly used for religious rituals. The Egypt of the pharaohs used it massively for funeral embalming. This esteem was also felt through the consideration of bees. They were assimilated to the sunlight, probably because of the color of their nectar. They were also referred to as the messengers of the gods. Over time, various virtues were discovered that only honey could provide. True companion of kitchen, we find it as well in pastries and pastries, as in sweet and salty recipes.
